The Stories

Robert Campbell of Ottawa 181 charges of cyberbullying

A 42-year-old man from Ottawa, Ontario spent at least 12 years terrorizing 38 people through the Internet in three countries (http://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/ottawa-man-faces-181-charges-for-international-cyberbullying-harassment). Robert Campbell was finally apprehended in 2014 and charged with 181 counts that included criminal harassment (27), identity fraud (69), and defamatory libel (85).

Campbell masked his identity online with elaborate software. His activity of cyberbullying and harassment desecrated lives and reputations of adults and their children.

  • He blackened the reputation of his own co-workers, sending out emails to spread rumor that there were allegations of alcohol abuse and unnatural sexual fetishes.

  • He created a letter campaign to smudge victims as supporters of the Nazi party and as pedophiles.

  • He set up fake profiles for his prey, showing them as gay, exotic dancers, Nazis, and called them disparaging names.

  • He used email to make up stories about targets’ health and in a target’s name he invited random people to sex parties.

A collaborative effort among international law enforcement brought Campbell down.
